The Milady Serialisation - the novels!
You read all about my research and planning for these novels in Searching for Milady - a completely metaphysical journey that began way back in 2014 - now you can read the NOVELS!
The storyline of the Milady de Winter novels comes from The Three Musketeers by Dumas. The male gaze of musketeers and subsequent scriptwriters portray her as a fully realised femme fatale when, of course, once she was an innocent little girl. But how did she become a courtier in both France and England, a French spy, and a baroness? I’ve tried, for the first time, to defend her reputation, and appreciate her survival skills in the early seventeenth century. Ridley Scott once said that the future is old. For Milady, history is new.
The Milady Series takes place from King to King – Henri IV’s assassination in 1610 to James I's death in 1625. The books (coming of age, marriage and rebirth, bigamy and freedom) contain insights into religion and violence, family and home, intrigue and political power, up to the beginning of The Three Musketeers. I take the history seriously; however, with Dumas as muse, we can never be serious for long.
The first book, Unfurling, is her coming of age story. Please comment and share!
